Why shingles fail, and how NANOROOF slows it down

Asphalt shingles age through a loop of seven stages. NANOROOF works against five of them directly, by bonding inside the shingle and encapsulating it.

Shingles don't wear out. They break down in a loop.

Every stage of shingle aging feeds the next, and the last stage exposes more asphalt to the sun, which starts it again. Tap a stage to see what happens and where NANOROOF interrupts it.

Three ways to treat an aging shingle

Surface coatings sit on the outside. Penetrating treatments soak in. NANOROOF does both: it penetrates and bonds inside the shingle and forms a protective layer on top, encapsulating it.

Surface coating

Forms a film over the granules. It never reaches the asphalt drying out underneath, and the film can crack and lift as the shingle moves.

Reaches: the surface only

Penetrating treatment

Soy-based rejuvenators and nano-silica penetrants soak into the weathered asphalt. Nothing stays on top of the granules, so the surface has no protective layer.

Reaches: inside only

NANOROOF SPS

Penetrates and bonds inside the shingle, then forms a protective layer over the granules, encapsulating the shingle from the inside out.

What’s in the NANOROOF SPS System

What SPS means

A water-based silicone elastomer made with proprietary nano-chemistry, designed for asphalt shingles.

It penetrates the shingle, bonds to the shingle's structure, and encapsulates it, adding a hydrophobic protective layer against water and granule loss.

What NANOROOF won't do

Being clear about limits is part of why the warranty means something.

  • It doesn't fix leaks. Most leaks come from flashings around chimneys, skylights and walls. Those are repaired first, during the tune-up.
  • It doesn't save a failed roof. Soft decking, structural damage or shingles that have lost too many granules mean replacement.
  • It isn't for brand-new roofs. New shingles need to wear in before the material can bond.
  • It isn't a new roof. It preserves the one you have and comes with its own warranty.
